Main Airports in Russia

The following airports may be used for air cargo shipments to Russia:

  • VKO – Vnukovo International Airport, Moscow

  • SVO – Sheremetyevo International Airport, Moscow

  • DME – Domodedovo International Airport, Moscow

  • LED – Pulkovo Airport, St. Petersburg

  • KZN – Kazan International Airport

  • AER – Sochi International Airport

The general city code for Moscow is MOW. However, the actual airport of arrival—VKO, SVO or DME—must be stated on the booking and Air Waybill.

Which Products Can Be Shipped to Russia by Air?

Subject to cargo and airline approval, the following product groups can be transported by air:

  • Machinery and equipment parts

  • Automotive spare parts

  • Textiles and ready-made garments

  • Electronic products

  • Industrial raw materials

  • Commercial samples

  • Medical devices

  • Spare parts and technical materials

  • Urgent production materials

  • Exhibition and event materials

Batteries, chemicals, aerosols, perfumes, flammable liquids, pressurised products and other dangerous goods require an MSDS review and airline approval.

Required Documents

The following documents are generally required for commercial air cargo shipments to Russia:

  • Commercial Invoice

  • Packing List

  • Air Waybill

  • Export customs declaration in Türkiye

  • Certificate of Origin, if required

  • HS code

  • Detailed commodity description

  • Consignee details

  • MSDS/SDS for chemicals or dangerous goods

  • Health, analysis or other product-specific certificates, where applicable

Document requirements may vary depending on the commodity, HS code and customs-clearance procedures.

Customs Clearance in Türkiye and Russia

In addition to transportation, we can provide support with customs-clearance procedures.

The service may include:

  • Export customs clearance in Türkiye

  • Preparation of the export declaration

  • Airport terminal and warehouse coordination

  • Entry into a temporary storage warehouse in Russia

  • Import customs clearance in Russia

  • Delivery after customs clearance

  • Documentation and operational coordination

Import customs-clearance availability is confirmed after reviewing the HS code, cargo value, consignee status and required documents. Customs duties, taxes and official charges are calculated separately.

How Is Volumetric Weight Calculated?

For air freight pricing, the actual gross weight and volumetric weight are compared. The greater figure is used as the chargeable weight.

The common formula is:

Length × Width × Height (cm) ÷ 6,000

Example:

If a pallet measures 120 × 100 × 150 cm:

120 × 100 × 150 ÷ 6,000 = 300 kg

If the pallet’s actual weight is 220 kg, the air freight charges may be calculated based on the 300 kg volumetric weight.

For non-stackable cargo, the airline may apply additional chargeable weight or position-based charges according to the space occupied in the aircraft.

Estimated Transit Time

Transit time depends on the flight schedule and service scope:

  • Airport-to-airport: approximately 2–5 days

  • Door-to-airport: approximately 3–7 days

  • Door-to-door: approximately 5–10 days

  • Shipments requiring transit or customs clearance may take longer

Transit times are estimates and may vary depending on flight capacity, routing, customs procedures, documentation checks and final delivery conditions.

How Is the Air Freight Rate to Russia Calculated?

The following factors affect the transportation cost:

  • Departure and arrival airports

  • Number of packages

  • Package dimensions

  • Actual and volumetric weight

  • Commodity and HS code

  • Stackability

  • Dangerous goods classification

  • Pickup requirements

  • Customs and warehouse procedures

  • Final delivery distance within Russia

  • Airline capacity and the cargo readiness date

For an accurate quotation, the Packing List, Commercial Invoice and available product documents should be provided.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can cargo currently be shipped to Russia by air?

Yes. Air cargo transportation can be arranged after confirming the cargo’s suitability and current flight availability.

Which airport is used for shipments to Moscow?

Vnukovo (VKO), Sheremetyevo (SVO) or Domodedovo (DME) may be used depending on the airline and cargo details. The final airport is confirmed during booking.

Is door-to-door air cargo service available?

Yes. Pickup in Türkiye, export customs clearance, air freight, import customs clearance in Russia and final delivery can be organised as a complete service.

Do you provide customs-clearance services in Russia?

Yes. Through our partners in Russia, we can arrange temporary storage, import customs clearance and delivery after customs clearance. The final service scope is determined after reviewing the commodity and consignee details.

Are customs duties included in the freight rate?

Customs duties, taxes and official charges are generally excluded from standard DAP and airport-delivery quotations. Customs-clearance service charges and official taxes can be quoted separately.

Can samples be shipped?

Yes. Sample shipments must include an accurate commodity description, HS code and reasonable customs value. The Commercial Invoice may state “Sample – Not for Resale.”

Can products containing batteries be shipped?

Acceptance is determined after reviewing the battery type, UN number, capacity, packing method and MSDS/UN 38.3 documents. Separate dangerous goods approval may be required.

How is non-stackable cargo priced?

The airline may consider both the cargo dimensions and the position occupied inside the aircraft. Therefore, the chargeable weight may be higher than the standard volumetric weight.

What information is required for a quotation?

The commodity description, HS code, number of packages, dimensions, weight, cargo value, pickup address, consignee details and delivery address are required.
